EDITOR’S PREFACE
It is commonly thought, both in Africa and outside of it, that colonialism ended in the second half of the last century. Nothing could be further from the truth. Only the language and the methods have changed. The colonizing nations, bankrupted by WWII, found that lies, intimidation and bribery could maintain colonial control much more cheaply than armies and civil servants, and incurred much less criticism. With overarching arrogance, profound ignorance, and mostly selfish motives, they continued remaking Africa in their own image, using such words as “international,” “universal,” and “united” to give a wholly bogus authority to what are in fact features and values of a small and very eccentric portion of the world’s population, using their wealth to buy and bribe, using their mistaken but invincible sense of superiority to browbeat.
It has been the greatest sorrow of my life that this has worked so well and the colonial powers have been able to foist the forms of government, institutions, laws, schooling, and economic and social policies they wanted on supposedly independent and sovereign nations. In general, Africans have lacked the self-confidence to say to these alien forces, “We know better what is right for us than you do.”
Okyere Bonna’s book represents a rare and very pleasing example of what appears to be a growing African self-confidence and willingness to confront colonialism. Whether he is right or wrong is up to every reader to decide, but that he is willing to make his case openly and strongly is wholly admirable. For that reason he gives me a new sense of hope for Africa and I am privileged to have been asked to help.

==============================
In 1994, United Nations came out to speak against abuses that target lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. However, Africa insists homosexuality and lesbianism are not socially responsible behaviors that it can endorse. This book highlights the debate and gives reasons why Africa must defend her culture and protect her sovereignty.
